Our History

The ACLS history provided here is an edited copy of a paper written by James S (Jim) Simpson and published in the journal Geomatica, Vol 53, No. 1 in January 1999. Mr. Simpson was the first President of the newly formed ACLS and later was Executive Director, then Chair of the Bylaws and Legislation Committee leading up to self-regulation status by the Association

The Association was incorporated on May 24th, 1985 and became a licensing body on March 18th, 1999 when the Canada Lands Surveyors Act came into force. CLICK HERE for the complete history of the ACLS.
