Our History

ACLS was incorporated on May 24th, 1985 and became a licensing body on March 18th, 1999 when the Canada Lands Surveyors Act came into force. CLICK HERE  for the complete history of the ACLS.

ACLS's history provided here is an edited copy of a paper written by James S (Jim) Simpson and published in the journal Geomatica, Vol 53, No. 1 in January 1999. Mr. Simpson was the first President of the newly formed ACLS and later was Executive Director, then Chair of the Bylaws and Legislation Committee leading up to self-regulation status by the Association.
